Medicine Buddha Puja (English)

Able to overcome mental and physical illnesses so as to endow with a healthy wish-fulfilling life

THIS WORLDLY EXISTENCE OF OURS PERVADES WITH SUFFERINGS.
Physically we suffer from birth, sickness, old age and death. Mentally we suffer from obsessions, insecurities and paranoia.
All living beings wish to have happiness and be rid of sufferings in their lives. Sadly, every attempt and effort made, countless times all over, are futile at the end. Due to ignorance, attachment and hatred, beings are ever tightly bound since time immemorial to the cycle of existence.

The Buddha of Healing and Medicine
Over the Eastern Direction,  crossing many, many Buddha’s realms in a place far, far away, in the  land of the Lapis lazuli, live the Buddha of Healing and Medicine, Bhaiṣajya-guru-vaidūrya prabha-rāja, Seeing the inevitable debacle of life of every living being, the Buddha of Medicine vowed to help all after he attained complete enlightenment. He made the 12 great vows so as to diminish and finally abolish all physical and mental suffering of living beings and lead them to liberation from this samsaric world.

The Lord Shakaymuni Buddha expounded the great and noble activities of this Medicine Buddha, Bhaisajya guru, so that beings from this world can benefit from His great vows.

The 12 Great Vows of Medicine Buddha
In accordance to the Mahayana Sutra of the Medicine Buddha the Twelve Great Vows are:

  1. To illuminate countless realms with his radiance, enabling anyone to become a Buddha just like him.
  2. To awaken the minds of sentient beings through his light of lapis lazuli.
  3. To provide the sentient beings with whatever material needs they require.
  4. To correct heretical views and inspire beings toward the path of the Bodhisattva
  5. To help beings follow the Moral Precepts, even if they failed before.
  6. To heal beings born with deformities, illness or other physical sufferings
  7. To help relieve the destitute and the sick
  8. To help women who wish to be reborn as men achieve their desired rebirth
  9. To help heal mental afflictions and delusions.
  10. To help the oppressed be free from suffering.
  11. To relieve those who suffer from terrible hunger and thirst.
  12. To help clothe those who are destitute and suffering from cold and mosquitoes.

 

Benefits
WE PROPITIATE  to the Buddha of Medicine to provide a powerful method for healing and increase healing powers both for oneself and others, and also for overcoming the poisons of ignorance, attachment and hatred, the causes of all sickness in ourselves.

Participating in the Puja, one receives blessing, CREATES CONDITIONS OF HEALING, thus alleviating physical and spiritual well being.

Collaborating in the elevation of oneself and others sufferings by not only participating in the puja but  also to emulate the  noble and compassionate activities of the Supreme Healer by literally reaching out to the unfortunate ones directly or indirectly.
